Basic Personality:
Jennifer definitely loves to have a good time and enjoys the simpler things in life. One would most likely find her sitting in front of the television snacking on chips and popcorn than at a fancy dinner party. Although, she does love to get dressed up and party with her friends. She can be easily distracted from the things she has to do by the things she wants to do. Though studying magic still enthralls her, studying is not the highest priority on her list. Though she has a competitive streak on her, she does not usually show it. Most of the time, it is only through the annoyance offered by her brothers that one would see it. Those not closest to her think of her as somewhat innocent, but she is far from that. Two older brothers and Hufflepuff house saw to the destruction of her innocence over the years.
The war darkened her outlook on life a bit. She has developed fears and anger that she had never had before, which sometimes leads her to snap at others, especially when she is having a bad day. Some of her past ideals have been lost, replaced by negative thoughts that not even her brothers appreciate.
BIOGRAPHY
Jennifer was born as the first girl in a family that already had two boys in it, which it then urned out she would be the only girl. Despite growing up in a house of boys, Jennifer stubbornly remained feminine in most things. With three boys around her, she could not help but have a little fiesty competitive streak in her that her brothers could easily provoke. Often times this came out whenever they did chores, played games, and the occasion football game at the nearby park. Jenny is still and forever will be the reigning Pictionary champ of her house. When her parents are not around, this competitive nature comes out between the Barrie siblings more and then add alcohol into the mix: it all makes for hilarious memories, especially when they made fun of each other the next morning for their individual hang overs.
Her parents owned a joint shop venture of a small bookshop connected to a video shop on the corner of a strip of small businesses. The stores never made as much as her parents had hoped for, especially with four children. Since the family could not afford a nanny, the children learned how to help in the shops at an early age. When they were not helping, or going to school, their father would set up a stack of movies next to a television set and a video machine as cheap babysitters. Later, her eldest brother Jacob became the one in charge of the lot of them. That was where her love for movies and moving pictures began. The magic of it all fascinated her. Unlike most of her brothers, Jennifer could easily spend hours, even days sitting in front of the television. Jacob liked to contest her in this and almost always lost. He beat her once when she was suffering from a summer cold that made her fall asleep halfway through the first movie. Her parents set up a back corner for her, which became the first place they would look for her whenever they needed her.
No one in her family knew about the wizarding world until an owl arrived one day with a letter and promptly shat on Jacob’s head. At first they were all confused and figured it was a big joke, but within a week one of the Hogwarts professors arrived on their doorstep to explain that Jenny had magical powers. Some strange things had happened around her that she couldn’t explian, but it had all been small and could have easily been explained as coincidence. Once she arrived at Hogwarts, her eyes became opened to real magic that was different from movie magic. There really were a bunch of kids like her and others who had known all along that they were magical. That did not diminish her love for movies. In fact, it increased it because she could now see the endless possibilities that other Muggles had not thought of when it came to the art form.
Her years at Hogwarts were fun and very rewarding. Jennifer excelled in some subjects and nearly failed in others. She will proudly state that she never once failed an essay or an exam. After graduation, Jenny hopped into the Daily Prophet as a photography intern. The job did not stimulate her that year with the mundane chores and menial tasks set to her. The Hogwarts Times had been far more interesting and entertaining. So she looked elsewhere to further her dreams and managed to get accepted into a one year conservatory program in Los Angeles where she got to study film full time. The year went by so quickly for her since everything around her distracted her so much. Sure she had tons of headaches and wanted to use magic on her classmates to kick them into gear, but she learned a lot. Despite her time in the sun, sand, and beautiful landscapes of California, Jennifer returned to England. Her family was still there as well as most of her friends from Hogwarts. With the war she kept hearing about, she felt that she had a duty to find a way to at least protect her family.
Her education and skill improvement with her still shot camera helped her obtain a freelance photographer job at the Daily Prophet upon her arrival. At least she did not have to do any annoying paperwork. Jennifer now had the freedom to travel around the country to take pictures of what she thought was truly news worthy. On more than one occasion she was also asked to cover small events that felt menial with the war going on around them. One of the editors had told her that still writing normal stories helped put the general population at ease, even for a few minutes. Normal life was still possible and would continue once things settled. The notion felt like a fool’s dream, filled with romantic and naive hopes.
Jennifer continued with her work, hoping to expose Death Eaters in their endeavors to control and destroy the world they all knew and loved. Unfortunately, instead of her capturing pictures of the witches and wizards she had set out to get, several Death Eaters jumped her from behind and knocked her out. She woke up in a dark room with three Death Eaters in dark cloaks and masks standing over her. There was blood in her mouth from a gash on her head that also gave her a throbbing headache. The wizards wanted to know what she was doing with the camera, which of course they had broken already. Jennifer feared for her life but told the truth about her job at the Daily Prophet. More than likely they would kill her, at least she figured as much with her Muggle born status. The obvious leader of the group chose not to kill her right then, but instead had her thrown into basement with several other witches and wizards who had been captured.
There she spent near about a month with the others (at least by her count.) They had all figured that the Death Eaters simply held them for purposes like ransom, information, or just to kill them at a later date when ever it suited them. Jennifer learned quickly that they kept her alive for her information about the Prophet. She lied as best she could by giving them false information that sounded credible. This only bought her small amounts of time when the Death Eaters would return later to torture her for the false information. Things went on like this until one night when she heard fighting above her in the main part of the building that the lot of them were kept in. The faces of some of her friends were very welcomed sights when they came in to rescue those captured.
After that ordeal, Jennifer hid with her family for months and stayed low so as to not attract any attention that might get them all killed. She did not touch her video camera nor the new one that her brothers bought for her during that time she stayed home. All she did was watch movies to distract her from her memories. Eventually one of her friends from the Prophet arrived and managed to coax her out of her hiding place to get back to work. Jennifer was very tentative at first, but has since become a bit more courageous about working again. She now has a Junior Photographer position at the Daily Prophet but generally sticks to the smaller assignments. The work keeps her mind busy enough so she doesn’t think too much on her ordeal or the friends she lost during the war.
