REDEFINING 'FAMILY' "Marlene and Deirdre McKinnon are two sisters with their fair share of differences. Marlene has always felt incredibly protective of her younger sister for obvious reasons, but even moreso because Deirdre has always been the quieter of the two, which a lot of people mistake for meekness. She's always pleased to have a ringside seat whenever those people discover that they are wrong.
When the McKinnons were attacked last July, Marlene could only think of one thing: get Deirdre out of there alive. The girls survived their attack but their parents and older brother Stuart were not so lucky. The girls struggle to move on from this tragedy together, but Marlene fears that part of Deirdre didn't make it out alive that night. She worries every day that Deirdre isn't coping well, but doesn't know where to begin in helping her. Marlene isn't quite sure she's coping well herself, but she is just grateful that she and her sister made it out alive." Marlene McKinnon, The Daily Prophet

SHORT STORIES OF THE HOGWARTS GRAD "Melissa and Deirdre's friendship is based mostly on circumstance and mutual friends. They tend to stay on different ends of their circle of friends though not really out of hatred or dislike. It is just the fact that they don't know each other that well. All of their interactions thus far have been short and when surrounded by a multitude of others. Perhaps that could change in the future if both women want that." Melissa Reynolds, Civilian

NO ONE'S FOUND THE NEW NORMAL YET "I heard about Deirdre from Marlene before the girl showed up to Hogwarts at the start of my fourth year. She looked nothing like her sister upon first glance and their behavior is drastically different, but I've since noticed a lot of similarities - they both steep their tea the same way, they both roll their eyes and smile at pretty much anything James Potter says (don't we all), and they both have a tendency to nibble on their fingernails whenever they're anxious.
Deirdre and I have, unfortunately, a lot more in common than we'd wish two. We're both the younger of three siblings and we both suffered all but the loss of our elder sibling in these past few months. We haven't spoken on the subject at all, although both she and Marlene were there for the funeral. I hate that we have this in common, but at the same time I'm grateful to know that we can understand each other when others cannot." Amelia Bones, Ministry of Magic

PROMISES ARE OVERRATED "Deirdre McKinnon is not very much like her sister at all, which shouldn't surprise me given what I know about sibling differences, but I suppose I'm the sort of ignorant sod whose surprised anyway. She's very quiet and thoughtful and very responsible, which also makes her very much unlike me as well. I'm surprised she and Remus don't get along better, but then again, she's protective. I gave her a hug at the McKinnon family funeral and said something along the lines of 'you'll make it through this.' I hope she doesn't resent me for it." Sirius Black, Civilian

THINGS YOU WISH YOU COULD CHANGE "Deirdre has always been like a little sister to me. Perhaps not always, but once Stuart and I became good pals, I started seeing her more as he saw her, which apparently would always be - always have been - like the little girl he'd left at home when he first went to Hogwarts. She's grown up a lot, and I now feel obligated to worry about her in his place now that he's gone. I feel awkward when around her, a feeling that has become more problematic now that she's started the auror training program. I was grateful to learn that I wouldn't be involved with her training, not as her official mentor at least. I will, of course, see her almost every day and I can't help but feel responsible for her."
