EVELYN BRONWYN TEAGUE

APPEARANCE
Hair:
Evie’s hair is dark brown that reaches the middle of her back. Her hair naturally falls in thick ringlets and is slightly coarse. When working on potions or during a rainy day, her hair becomes frizzy and completely unmanageable. There are days that, with the aid of some magic, she is able to style it so it is wavy or straight, but her hair has such a wild reputation that it usually doesn't matter what someone sees before jokes are made.
Eyes:
Her eyes are dark brown.
Height:
5' 8" (1.73 m)
Style:
Evie wears a lot of layers - items of clothing that can easily be peeled back when outside – and her signature boots, which are looking their age. She spends long hours out in the garden or in her makeshift potion lab at home meaning her nails are often stained or her clothes covered with some sort of filth.
Etc.:
Under layers of heavy wool and thin cotton, Evie looks like a frumpy girl with frizzy hair and ancient boots. And she is. Her frame is well hidden under those layers, but she’s not
PERSONALITY
Erised:
A family, a large one that is unburdened by thoughts of war and blood purity. Evie’s given up on this as ever being a likelihood, but deep in the bottom of her heart its all she wants.
Dementor:
Too many. The Battle of Hogsmeade. Every night Christopher was missing. Every notice a dead friend.
Patronus:
Sirius bringing Christopher home late one night after hope became something only mad people believed in.
Boggart:
Spiders. Fucking Spiders.
Likes:
Potions, coffee, sweets, gardening, thick socks, rain storms, warm days, lager, pancakes, chocolate, strawberry ice cream, Quidditch, ballet, punk music, smoky clubs, cereal, smoking, drinking, sex, concerts, screaming, cooking, baking,
Dislikes:
Rude people, pureblood bias, falling into routine, most pop music, trying clothes on at a shop, false intellectuals, romance novels, people that dog-ear their books, olives, disco music, fruit, gossiping, Brussels sprouts, hospitals, heels, feeling stupid, being made fun of for her hair, spiders, classic movies
Basic Personality:
Evie is a slob. Her room is always a mess and she usually walks around the flat in her underwear. She bites her nails and just spits out the offending nail on the floor instead of throwing them away. But despite all these habits, Evie keeps a clean living area. She can't cook in a messy kitchen, but has no problems with trying to fit an entire box of cereal in her mouth.
She developed a reputation of having thick skin at Hogwarts and was usually the first with a sarcastic remark. Her honesty is brutal and her protective nature is fierce, but she has her ups and downs as much as anyone. Evie feels like she can't publicly show them, hiding in a bathroom or her bed if her emotions get the better of her, and she's often lonely even if she's the one that has isolated herself. Despite the friends she has, she always feels like there's a barrier between her and them.

Biography:
Bronwyn Teague died without any knowledge of who Evie was or what she would be able to do after her eleventh birthday. Evie wasn't even sure if her mother knew she finally had a daughter by the time she passed. Her mother only existed in old perfume bottles and dresses in the attic by the time Evie could have any memory of her. The loss was her brothers' and her father's to bear, even if it meant her father spent days at a time at the office.
Evie's family life was always strong, if a little unconventional. Roland, her father’s younger brother, and his wife, Amelia, often had Evie and her brothers in their home, despite their own growing number of children and the small amount of space there was for all of them. As all the Teague children grew, they often resembled siblings more than cousins. They would always argue and fight, amongst themselves or with neighborhood children that chose the wrong kid to pick on. It was during an argument between Reese and Scotty Gwyyns one afternoon when Evie was four that Amelia witnessed the little girl chase Scotty through the park with a cricket bat. Horrified, Amelia pushed Owen to get Evie into dance classes – anything that could make the girl more feminine than she promised to become.
Despite all efforts by her aunt and father, Evie's childhood continued down the same path until she was eleven. Her letter came in the post with the rest, a letter that promised a world of magic that her family thought was an elaborate hoax at first. But Evie believed every word from Deputy Headmistress Minerva McGonagall's letter and had it memorized by the time her father started seeing the proof his daughter was a witch.
She knew how to get to Diagon Alley and knew where to shop and where to get their money converted, though Evie wasn't sure what a galleon was. The letter had enough detail and she followed all the instructions, probably the last time Evie would ever follow Professor McGonagall's instructions perfectly leading up to the first of September. It wasn't until she was saying goodbye to her father and brothers that she started to doubt going to a school in Scotland. If the school really did exist, why take her?
But as soon as her doubts started to gain volume, the train whistle sounded and there was no more time. Evie had to go despite whatever unknown consequences there might be or run back to Wales. There wasn't really a choice.
At Hogwarts, Evie was sorted into Gryffindor and made a few friends amongst the houses. Christopher Moffett-Smith’s name was the most prominent of everyone she met her first year not because his name was so long, but because he has always and will always be the best friend she ever had. Though for her own sanity, Evie considers their friendship one of convenience and necessity. Convenient for her as he was the first person she met on the train, necessity for him as who would want to be friends with a pathetic nerd like him.
The next year, Evie would meet Sirius Black along with the rest of his year, though Sirius would remain the platonic love of her life for the next several years. Each new class to come to Hogwarts, specifically to Gryffindor, would be welcomed by Evie and she was always there to keep an eye on them if they wanted her there or not.
She never had any romantic attachments through her years at Hogwarts. No dating, never had a boyfriend, but she wasn't a nun either. Evie had her first kiss with Christopher during their fourth year, just to see what it was like - awful - and to never do it again. During her fifth year, a strange phenomena occurred that whenever she went to a party with Christopher and they would drink, they would eventually kiss. A tradition that followed through their sixth year and ended abruptly with them both taking each other's virginity at the end of the year in an empty classroom.
The kiss during their fourth year was exponentially better, but Evie was drunk enough not to remember every detail of what happened at the end of her sixth year which was a blessing. One of the few times Evie and Christopher ever talked about what had happened, she realized he hadn't thought it was her first time and, for whatever reason, Evie let him continue thinking that.
They didn't talk much between the summer of their sixth and seventh year, Evie discovering punk music and throwing herself into every record store. She sent a heavy review of every album to Sirius and went to every concert she could. It was that summer she bought her boots and when she came back to Hogwarts for her seventh year, Evie was changed for the better.
Hogwarts taught her a lot of important things like patience while brewing and never to get drunk with Christopher and, sometimes, you should just take Arithmancy because of the hot new teacher. It wasn’t Evie’s only reason for taking the class, she had been slugging through it for six years before Edward Wenlock came to Hogwarts, but the friendship she gained through tutoring sessions and less innocent sounding movie nights with her professor would become nothing short than life changing.
Nothing happened while Evie was his student, something she’s not stopped saying for nearly four years now. Evie graduated from Hogwarts and she gave a very proper goodbye to Edward that was followed by the request they become pen pals. A prearranged road trip with Evie’s seventh year friends was completely occupied with letters to and from Edward. She wrote him constantly, spending more time with him on that vacation than her friends and never sending the ones that drug on for pages about how much she missed him and thought about him. Her letters were about Brighton and full of what she hoped to be clever lines that would distinguish herself from his student.
Once back in the real world, Evie learned that her worries were completely unfounded. Edward and Evie began dating a month after graduation and Evie thought they would be together so much longer than a year. They barely lasted eight months. The end of their relationship marred with the same tale that had followed Evie around since her fifth year - she and Christopher got drunk.
The months following were difficult. When they were talking, Evie didn’t feel the same ease she usually felt around Christopher. Evie didn’t really feel ease around anyone and she focused solely on her work and making it through to the next day. It took dedication and exhausted her to a point past late night study sessions, but Evie continued on. An attempted mugging didn’t even seem to act as an inconvenience to the way she continued on, though the stabbing hurt like Hell.
It was luck that the passerby that helped her was a wizard, but Evie was embarrassingly relieved to find Christopher on duty. No matter what happened, Evie could always rely on Christopher to take care of her. Even when she protested she didn’t need taking care of. Within a month, their roles would be reversed and Evie would experience the horror of seeing Christopher in a hospital bed.
They started dating shortly after facing both of their mortalities in such a short time. Evie wasn’t aware of the change from it being a terrible, if not disgusting, idea to the only option for some peace of mind, but she’s never doubted or looked back from that point on. They fight, they make up, they get complaints from their neighbors, but their relationship was one of the few good things to come from the war.
But war has a way of eliminating all that can keep a person sane or happy.
Evie and Christopher always had conflicting and erratic schedules, but after they moved in together time became easier to manage. It was during one of Evie’s night shifts when Christopher was taken from their home, a ransacked flat and open door offering evidence but little clue as to where Christopher had been taken. For months, Evie waited. The Ministry didn’t seem to do anything and Evie could only consul herself with the vague promises from Sirius that they would bring him back.
It felt mad to believe Sirius would bring Christopher back after months of silence, but he did. Evie still struggles to let Christopher go back and forth to work without letting her anxiety and fear win out, but every time she finds him home and safe strengthens her hope that was so close to being lost. Surviving the war, coming out on the other side with her friends and family intact seemed impossible, but the morning edition of the Daily Prophet on 1 November 1981 promised everything she wanted and had been waiting for.
