APPEARANCE
Hair:
Long red hair, though it’s usually tied back in a messy bun or ponytail.
Eyes:
Green
Height:
5' 6"
Style:
Lily style is neither fashionable nor out of date. It takes her a long time to accept new trends and it’s only after one of her friends or her husband assure her that flared jeans or peasant tops look good on her that she’ll consider purchasing an item. Usually it takes several shopping trips after her friends’ encouragement that she’ll actually buy anything.
Etc.:
Her dark red hair and green eyes distinguish her in a crowd, but Lily thinks she looks quite plain. She is not one to primp in front of the mirror, but she has noticed she has become less dedicated to how she looks when there is always some sort of spit up stain or sticky on her clothes.
PERSONALITY
Erised:
Harry in his final year of Hogwarts, happy and a mirror image of his father except for her eyes. Lily would never admit to the added details of a Gryffindor tie and Head Boy badge pinned to his robes.
Dementor:
The night of 31 October 1981.
Patronus:
Harry’s first Christmas. There was no talk of spies or going into hiding. The war felt so far away and Lily was surrounded by her friends and family, all the people she loved with ever fiber of her being. For one day they were all safe.
Boggart:
To find her family dead or hurt or with a splinter.
Likes:
Christmas, reading, chocolate frogs, The Beatles, dinner parties, Quidditch, rain, tea, cats, falling asleep by the fire, baking, red wine, being outdoors, going to see films with James, being around her friends and family.
Dislikes:
Vernon Dursley, bullies, mushy peas, overly salty foods, arguing with her sister, waking up early on Saturdays, bugs, being late for anything, not having a job
Basic Personality:
Lily always worried over the small things in school: checking and rechecking her work until it’s perfect, packing her bag the night before, and spending more time as a shoulder to cry on than having any of her own adventures. Worries got so much bigger after graduation and at times she doesn’t recognize herself. A sharp tongue and headstrong nature can be found deep under the surface when she can tease James in the safety of the life they’ve built together, but the idea of safety became harder to grasp during the war.
BIOGRAPHY
Lily was the youngest daughter to Walter and Ann Evans; their eldest daughter, Petunia, was two and a half at the time. A childhood in Cokeworth was dreary, but ordinary for the girls and the generations of children that came before them. Lily and Petunia went to the same primary school two streets down that their parents had attended and played in the park before supper when the weather was warm enough.
Lily loved her sister and would often try to play with Petunia and her friends, which would lead to a big argument between the girls that Lily didn’t understand. She didn’t see why her sister needed her own time or why she wasn’t happy for Lily’s achievements like their parents were. Instead of giving Petunia any space, Lily pushed harder for her sister to be proud of her and was devastated when she made a flower’s petals move without touching them angered Petunia.
Freak.”
But she wasn’t a freak, at least that was what a boy from Spinner’s End told her. Severus knew so much about magic and Lily wanted nothing more than to believe it was real. She spent less and less time with Petunia and more with Severus, though every night Lily would try to tell her sister about some of the things Severus had shared. Most nights, Petunia listened or would ask questions. Lily had no idea how badly Petunia wanted to go to Hogwarts until she was helping her write a letter to Professor Dumbledore, begging for her admittance.
A second letter never came for Petunia and the sisters’ relationship was never the same. As annoying as Lily could be, the sisters had been close but jealousy and months spent apart has made it impossible for them to communicate. Amongst the cheer of the Christmas holidays, there is always one fight between the girls where they scream and cry and only when they are too tired to continue do they apologize. But an argument is always there - whether it is about whose turn it is to do the dishes or Vernon.
Petunia is still there when Lily needs her, even if she has to go into detail about what is bothering her. She wrote pages to her sister after Severus called her a ‘mudblood’ just to explain why the term was so offensive and she received pages back with such rude language about what Severus could to with his ‘magic twig’ that Lily passed it on to Marlene just to have a laugh about it.
No amount of sisterly advice or rude threats could touch the incorrigible beast that is James Potter, a boy so self-assured and popular that his obvious bullying was ignored. Lily hated him for the way he treated Severus, encouraging him to participate in some foolish feud, and was mortified when James dared to start flirting with her. But Severus wasn’t innocent in his arguments with James and Lily knew the sting of his words too well to discount them in placing fault.
Lily suffered greatly without her friendship with Severus, but the tie severed between them was final for her. She started spending more time with her fellow Gryffindors and a select few outside of her house. The process meant a prolonged exposure to James Potter, but Lily didn’t let him ruin her happiness. She went to the house parties, became a skilled Truth or Dare participant, and dated a boy on the reserve team for Gryffindor. But the less time she spent with James, the more she valued his humor and his understanding of her own humor.
By the time Lily and James were named head boy and head girl, Lily had forgotten why long patrols with James would have been a form of torture the year prior. She was worried he might not pull his own weight, but she knew the patrols would never be dull with James around and that Gryffindor had a chance at the House Cup if James was too busy to lose house points. During the middle of the November of their seventh year, Lily told James that he should ask her out again and they’ve been together ever since.
Lily’s seventh year was a whirlwind of study sessions and patrols, but it was also her happiest at Hogwarts. After graduation there was war and hospital rooms and funerals, but Lily’s final year wouldn’t be the highlight of her young life. She married James almost a year out of school and six months later she would be pregnant with their, James insists, first child. Lily planned to take a year off to raise Harry, but they were forced into hiding around his first birthday.
The good was so easily buried under the bad, but Lily never lost hope that the war would end. She tried so hard to keep everything normal for the family, to keep James’ spirits up when he became restless, and all the while news of the deaths of their friends became more difficult to cope with because they were so removed from the front lines. Lily was beside herself with guilt when she couldn’t go to Marlene after her family died, but she contained herself to letters and spoiled her boys the best anyone could manage in the final stages of the war.
What happened on the Halloween of 1981 isn’t a topic for Lily to tolerate in retelling. She witnessed Peter’s death. She was helpless to stop He Who Must Not Be Named from cursing her son, but the second death she witnessed that night was not Harry’s.
