The wedding ceremony took place in the late afternoon on the beach across the road from the home where Daniel grew up. Everyone who attended the wedding sat on folding chairs in the sand. After the ceremony ended, everyone walked less than a hundred feet to the large tent set up for the reception on the beach. There was dancing, drinking, and even a band that played classic rock and roll. The song, "Can't Help Falling In Love," played for Daniel and Melissa's first dance as a wedded couple.
Instead of having identical bridesmaid dresses, Melissa instructed her bridesmaids to pick their own dresses for the wedding as long as they were bright crimson and tea length. The rest was entirely up to them. Each one of them held a small bouquet of white carnations and roses that went along with Melissa's own bouquet. The white roses matched the boutonnieres worn by the groomsmen, who all wore grey tuxedos and blue ties.
When the time came, Melissa held tightly to her father and a bouquet of blue carnations and white roses. She had a mixture of nerves and excitement building up inside her while she walked down the aisle, that it made her knuckles white by the time she got to Daniel's side. The color scheme of the wedding was red, white, and blue for various reasons that meant a lot to the couple. The bride's side was red for Gryffindor and the grooms side was blue for Ravenclaw.
Less than a year before the wedding, Daniel gave Melissa an engagement ring he had saved up for during a weekend trip to Paris. The ring had small diamonds halfway around the band and a large square diamond in the middle. During the ceremony, Melissa slipped on a white gold band onto his finger after he gave her an identical ring. Their wedding bands had an engraving on it that read the words that Daniel had used when he had proposed, words that he often repeated to her when they were alone.
Of course the wedding cake had a Quidditch theme to it with Snitches, Quaffles, Beater Bats, and hoops all over it. The cake was covered in white icing but underneath, half of it was chocolate and half vanilla. Instead of the traditional bride and groom standing atop the cake, the plastic pieces were charmed to sit on brooms and fly around the top in circles. Melissa and Daniel cut the cake together before covering each others' faces with cake. The reception itself went like any other wedding reception, except that the attendees (mainly the bride and groom) had the tendency to play in the sand a lot. Everyone had good food and lots to drink while the band played after the sunset and the stars came out.
Melissa wore a strapless dress that ended at her knees. The bottom half of the dress was covered in lace while the top half was fitted to her torso so it would not come off. Her mother gave her an old brooch to pin to the white ribbon tied around her waist. Her dress covered the new item that she needed, while a nice jeweled pin in her hair was an item she had borrowed from Lily, and her garter was the something blue. Melissa stayed barefoot for both the ceremony and following reception. Everyone at the wedding did not wear shoes since the bride and groom had forbidden them. This protected anyone in the wedding party from getting hurt. Before the ceremony began, Melissa, her bridesmaids, and flower girl stayed in the back garden of the Reynolds home where they took lots of pictures for fun.
Daniel wore a dark grey tuxedo with a blue tie and grey vest underneath. Like his bride, he did not wear shoes. The other groomsmen wore blue ties to match his and their own grey suits that they could gather. Each man wore a boutonniere that matched the bridesmaid bouquets. Daniel's boutonniere had an extra blue carnation to match Melissa's bouquet. He had his hair combed and styled nicely out of his face for the event. The photographer captured one of Melissa's favorite pictures of Dan pacing back and forth nervously by the tent on the beach. Of course, after the ceremony ended, Daniel only had a smile on his face. He used every excuse to keep hold of his new bride and quickly led her away to the house when it was time for him to apparate them to the location of their honeymoon that he had already set up before that day. |
