THALIA ANNE BARKER
02/profile.jpg"] | Full Name: Thalia Anne Baker Nicknames: Thali, Lia, Wild Child, the Savage (only her grandmother calls her that last one) Date of Birth: December 27th Hometown: Oxford, UK Education: Hufflepuff, 1978 Blood Status: muggle-born Occupation: Chaser, Puddlemere United Employer: Puddlemere United Quidditch Team Wand Type: Sequoia, seven and a half inches, unicorn tail hair, very willful |
APPEARANCE
Hair:
Thalia’s hair is a naturally a medium brown. Her Hair reaches her mid just past her shoulders and if it is not carefully managed, brushed, and styled tends to turn into an unruly mess of waves and curls. When she takes the time and does her hair, Thalia manages to have silky locks that tumble into well-managed curls. She likes to describe her finished look as smooth at the top, party near the ends.
Eyes:
If Thalia had to pick a favorite feature, it would be her eyes. Her eyes are a beautiful mix of grey and blue that her mother always said reminded her of a sky right before a storm. Even when she’s a mad they always seem to be hiding a little bit of laughter; as if she knows something no one else does.
Height:
5'9"
Style:
Thalia is all about what is comfortable. Most of her wardrobe consists of things she can wear for quidditch practice or under her robes to make them a little more bearable during games. She does, however, have a nice reserve girly wardrobe for when she truly needs to be a little more feminine. She usually tries to avoid hitting that section of her closet but she pulls it off when she has to.
Etc.:
Fun and quirky are the two worlds to describe Thalia over all. She likes a natural look and never really thinks of herself as particularly pretty much less beautiful but when she shines herself up several people think so. Other than eyeliner and a good lipstick she general avoids make up because its just so much of a hassle and Thalia likes to keep it simple.
PERSONALITY
Erised:
To be one of the best quidditch player of all time and eventually get a captain position on any team.
Dementor:
The day her grandmother found out she was a witch. The first reaction of the old bird was to call her only granddaughter a heathen and then a freak. Thalia was a tough bird, until that moment. After all, that was one of the only times Thalia cried in front of anyone. It was hurtful, and humiliating, and to this day she still hasn’t forgiven her grandmother despite the fact that old bird has come to terms with her granddaughter’s ‘special’ circumstances.
Patronus:
The day she learned to ride a broom. It was cool enough finding out that she was a witch and that she had powers, but nothing beat flying for the first time. It was a pure high feeling that free and that wild up in the air among the clouds. It was the ultimate escape and the best time of her life. She was a natural too which only helped things along.
Boggart:
Getting old and acting like it. Getting old is one thing, but she really doesn’t want to end up a stuffy old professor like her mother. Or worse yet a stuffy, snobby, stuck up old rich lady like her grandmother.
Likes:
Outdoors, rock n’ roll, singing, quidditch, colors, drinking (big fan of tequila), individuality, parties, practical jokes, magic, flying, guys (hot guys), traveling, food, sunshine, cupcakes, a good book
Dislikes:
fake people, snobby people, universities, lectures, being proper, things that still look raw when you eat them, snakes, banana flavored anything, classical music
Basic Personality:
Thalia is an individual in every sense of the word. She likes to travel and because of her travels she has picked up a number of traits from a lot of different cultures. She’s proud of what makes her an individual and rarely takes any flack from anyone who says her differences are something to be ashamed of. She tends to be a little wild for a lot of people, but once you make friends with her she will be loyal to a fault in the end. Sometimes it gets her in trouble considering she can make poor decisions in order to help others because she thinks its best for them.
Other bad decisions Thalia makes are often because of either her temper or her extreme competitive nature. Thalia hates loosing whether that be in a classroom competition or out on the field. She tends to get a little upset about it and hold on to the grudge of a loss for a long long time. Still, despite all that she tends to be a fun loving person who just wants to laugh and make others laugh too no matter what it takes. In her opinion, life isn’t worth living unless you live it laughing and having a good time.

Biography:
Thalia is the only daughter of two Cambridge University professors. Well, at the time of her birth it was one guest lecturer at Cambridge and one graduate student at Cambridge. Thomas Barker was a citizen of USA and a resident of New Mexico and Diana was a graduate student in the classics department who he met at a bar. They got off and within a year they were married and she was pregnant. To this day her mum and dad won’t admit which came first her or the wedding. Any way Thomas got a permanent position at Cambridge as a professor of archeology and Diane eventually became a professor there as well a few years after Thalia was born. The small family of three settled down in a small cottage right around the corner from the university.
Things were quiet for the first couple of years. Diana focused on getting settled in as a professor and Thomas did his best to integrate himself into British culture and food (which was a real problem for him). The only time things went wrong for the couple is when Thalia buggered out. At least that’s what Diana called it. Sometimes, strange things would happen at the house and especially at the university when Thalia visited. For instance, one time during Diana’s classic’s lesson two marble busts started winking during class while Diana was lecturing. Another time, while Thomas was in a department meeting his papers started floating away much to Thalia’s enjoyment.
The worst instance happened when Thalia was seven. Her parents had come to look at her as special, especially after her dad explained to her mother exactly what was going on. After all, he had a sister that no one really talked about that did much of the same that Thalia was doing now. Her parents decided to keep things under wraps though, so it was quite a surprise when during a Christmas tea thrown by Thalia’s grandmother when the cat (her grandmother’s only and favorite companion as it happened) started changing colors. When Thalia’s grandmother figured out Thalia was changing the cat at will the woman kicked her granddaughter out of the house with a good deal of screaming and cursing.
After that day, something that came to be known as “the incident” in the Barker family, it was decided the family would do a lot more traveling. While her parents remained professors at Cambridge they started to guest lecture a lot more various places around the world- especially in the American Southwest thanks to Thomas’ ties there.
Moving was hard on Thalia as she never really got a chance to settle down and become a part of any one community. After all, a year or two years in the family would move. Still, Thalia manged to stay bright and happy despite the frequent moves. She was usually very cheerful and made friends easily- usually through sports. Her parents always supported her and cheered her on. Sometimes her competitive nature got her in trouble. One time a boy she was playing soccer against got stuck to a goal post when he was trying to block one of her passes. He was convinced it was Thalia and started calling her Medusa. Mysteriously enough the same boy found himself frozen on the playground three days later for using the name more than a few times. Thalia admitted later she just got a little upset and that she didn’t really mean to do anything that drastic.
Things really started to click for Thalia when the family started receiving owls from Hogwarts when they were just about to go back to Cambridge. They were visiting with Thomas’ family and Aunt Dee explained everything, in full, to the whole family. That was the first time Thalia felt like she was special rather than just a little strange or even savage as her grandmother once said. In fact, Thalia thought it was just about the best thing she ever heard. Her parents were a relieved too considering it meant they could stay in Cambridge.
That fall Thalia was on the Hogwarts Express for the first time. She got so sick from eating all the strange wizarding candy from the trolly. That night Thalia was told she would be in Hufflepuff house and she couldn’t be happier. Yellow was a fun color and it generally looked like a fun bunch of people. As Thalia found out over the next couple of years Hufflepuff house generally were a really great group of people, and a better group of friends. For Thalia every day at Hogwarts is a new adventure. After all, she get’s to see a bunch of stuff that no one ever though existed each day. That makes he happier than anything else. Except for maybe flying. Second year she stole a broom and she’s been hooked on flying, and quidditch ever since joining the Hufflepuff team her fourth year as a back up and a starter by her fifth year. By her seventh year she was made captain and won Hufflepuff a second place trophy, much to her disappointment. It was enough, however, to show some quidditch scouts her potential and win her an invite to try outs for the league.
It was a tough try out. Thalia flew as well as she could manage and picked up a spot on the reserve team. She quickly picked up notice for being a highly dedicated member. She played as hard as she worked- often staying on the field after practice hours were up to prefect a move or fix a mistake in her form. Still, Melissa often beat her out for the top spot on the team time and time again. To this day Thalia credits Reynolds getting herself knocked up as the jump start to her career. Thalia took Mel's position and became a solid member of Puddlemere during the 1980 season. Her ethic had finally paid off and Thalia soon became one of the most watched members of the team, both for her on field and off field antics.
Currently, quidditch is still Thalia's only love. She lives for the sport and everything that comes with it. Often going out and having a good time after the games with her team mates or heading off to her flat to relax and recuperate. It doesn't really bother her that its been three years since she graduated and has very little to show for it in her personal life. She was a little sad to hear about Peter though considering that he was one of her friends during her school years. Still, that's why she always tried her best to stay out of the war- it was easier not to get hurt.
