FIONA MICHELLE CARLISLE
Full Name: Fiona Michelle Carlisle Nicknames: Fi, Fifi (few can pull that one off) Date of Birth: 21 February, 1960 Hometown: Edinburgh, Scotland Parents' Names: James and Heather Carlisle Other Family: Aunts, cousins, etc. Blood Status: Muggle-born Occupation: Accountant, St. Mungo's Hospital Wand Type: Vine and phoenix feather, 10 inches |
APPEARANCE
Hair:
A long, silky brown that is always brushed and well-cared for
Eyes:
Large and a deep, warm shade of brown
Height:
5'2"
Style:
Fiona likes to think her taste in fashion and – well, everything – is better than everyone else’s. She is very stylish and always well-dressed, never the type to throw her hair in a ponytail and slip on a pair of jeans. Presentation is very important to her and she’s never known any better – she learned how to dress from her mother, after all.
Etc.:
Fiona is very petite with long limbs and a naturally lithe figure. She seems a bit prissy to those who don't know her (and to those who do - the shoe fits), but since the war, she's become more relaxed when in the company of her friends.
PERSONALITY
Erised:
To be loved.
Dementor:
Every night during the war.
Patronus:
The day she learned that she wasn't alone, that there were others of non pure-blood heritage in Slytherin who worked to hide their true identities.
Boggart:
Being alone. Fiona was raised by parents who made her feel like she was difficult to love and fears that everyone else feels the same way about her. She's terrified of growing old and alone, and also - millipedes. Too many legs.
Likes:
Arithmancy, transfiguration, classical music (although she secretly loves listening to the top of the pops on the WNN), white tulips, praise, feeling like she's in control, herbal tea, ice water, vodka tonic, roasted pumpkin seeds, cider, champagne, cheesecake, eighteenth and nineteenth century literature, lounging in large woolly sweaters and thick woolly socks,
Likes:
Having to lie, the war, sick people, the sight of blood, shabby clothing, excessive drinking, swearing, gum-chewing, smoking, keeping secrets, herbology, working so hard that she gets a headache and cannot stop frowning, creepy little insects, cheap clothing, cheap wine or champagne
Basic Personality:
Fiona generally doesn't think very well of people, so she's never surprised when they do something to disappoint her. There are exceptions: people of whom she thinks so highly and whom she'll always rely on. Chief in her high estimation is Belle DuMarc, one of her best friends and, while an incredibly flawed human being, Fiona trusts her implicitly.
She doesn't think very highly of herself, which has made her prone to allowing people to walk all over her in the past. Fiona is no stranger to standing up for herself, but there are times when she feels like there's nothing to stand up for.
BIOGRAPHY
Fiona was not born to very doting parents. They were not overtly cruel to their daughter, but they did make her feel like she was hard to love, something she's sure she'll carry with her for the rest of her life. Despite a great lack of affection, Fiona did not want for much growing up. She and her parents lived in a very fine apartment in Edinburgh, Scotland, where Fiona attended primary school for the first decade of her life.
It was on her eleventh birthday that she received a letter from a place called Hogwarts. Fiona's parents weren't at home when she opened the letter, and it would be weeks before she showed it to them. She went to the bed with the letter every night and read it over and over, desperate to know more but afraid of what sort of trouble she may have gotten in. It certainly wasn't normal to be invited to study witchcraft.
When her parents started speaking of which boarding school to send her to for secondary, Fiona finally showed them the letter. That same week, they received a visit from a woman named Minerva McGonagall, who explained everything to Fiona and her parents. Fiona is still amazed that her parents agreed to send her there, but seeing as they were planning to ship her off anyway, she supposed it didn't matter where she went.
She was sorted into Slytherin her first night at Hogwarts, and before she made the mistake of mentioning it, it was quickly intimated to her that people of non-magical parentage were no well thought of in Slytherin house. For a long time she thought she was the only Muggle-Born in the school, but then she overheard Lily Evans talking about her parents having to get used to sending their post via owls. Despite knowing she wasn't the only Muggle-Born at Hogwarts, Fiona was determined that everyone, especially those in her house, believed that she was a pure-blooded witch.
She managed to keep her secret for seven years, but towards the end of her final year, she got very scared and in a highly emotional state, she admitted her shameful secret to the least likely of people: Severus Snape. When he told her she wasn't the only non pure-blood in Slytherin, Fiona felt like she could release a breath she'd been holding for almost seven years.
After her graduation ceremony, Fiona was riding in a carriage with her parents and Belle DuMarc (Belle Ryland at the time) when the attacks began. The two girls stepped out of their carriage to witness what is now known as the Battle of Hogsmeade - a seemingly random Death Eater attack whose only purpose could be to frighten those who thought they were safe; an exhibition of power. Fiona and Belle apparated her parents back to their house in Edinburgh.
Fiona should have been afraid of the magical world after such a display, but by contrast, she felt more compelled to hold onto it. She lived with her mother (her parents divorced when she was sixteen and her mother kept their flat) for several months while she looked for a job. She eventually landed a position at Witch Weekly, procuring a very sought after position as secretary to the editor.
The wizard she worked for turned out to be a very bad man. He was all charm and smiles, but when he thought people weren't looking, he would touch Fiona's hair or place his hand low on her back in what he feigned was a fatherly manner. After the Christmas party in '78, he cornered her in the copy editor's office and kissed her. She fought against him and he threatened to fire her. Fiona kneed him in the groin and told him to accept that as her resignation.
She spent a lot of time with Belle DuMarc afterwards, telling the girl all of the secrets she didn't know in hopes that she could help her understand why her life was such a mess. The girls eventually decided to rent a lovely flat together that has a back garden where Blanche could play when the weather was fine. Both girls started work at St. Mungo's - Belle as a healer and Fiona as an accountant. Blanche is currently three and Fiona loves her as if she were her own.
The past few years haven't been easy. Fiona is constantly looking over her shoulder, questioning every strange sound in the night, and panics whenever Belle or Blanche aren't in the room with her. The announcement that You-Know-Who had finally fallen was a great cause for celebration, and Fiona will continue to celebrate his downfall every night with a bottle of vodka until she figures out how to live her life without constant fear.
