     Ethan wears dress shirts with stiff collars and rolled up sleeves to work. He likes to keep a neat appearance, but during the day he's constantly loosening his tie, and he has a bad habit of spilling coffee on his shirt. Ethan prefers to wear thick jumpers and t-shirts in his free time, partnered with a well-worn pair of jeans or corduroys and his favorite pair of dragonhide boots that can have withstood more damage and wear than an ordinary pair of leather boots would. He almost has a shabby appearance, but his clothes are all well-cared for, even if they're a bit old.

     Ethan is of average height, build, and is overall extremely ordinary looking. He's in good shape due to rigorous auror training that involves a lot more running than one might imagine. He has a thick Scottish accent that is sometimes even hard for him to understand.

     Disfigurement. It's a danger of his profession, as recently witnessed in Alistor Moody, who lost a chunk of his nose while dueling with a Death Eater. Ethan has nightmares that his arms and legs are chopped off, either by unseen forces or by faceless people torturing for information. This predates his auror training, and he's not quite sure where the fear began. He is always sure to tuck all of his limbs snugly under his comforter at night when he goes to bed to protect them from limb snatchers.

Basic Personality:
     Ethan is a calm, level-headed sort of person who isn't overly verbose but knows how to keep a conversation going. He gets along with most people, but he doesn't shy away from confrontation when it's necessary. He is the sort of person people gravitate towards, either because they find his calm demeanor relaxing or because he seems harmless. While not naturally intimidating, Ethan is one of those people that is usually so calm and cheerful that when crossed, it is a terrifying sight to behold. His temper isn't easily lost, but once he starts shouting he has difficulty calming down.

Biography:
     The day Rowena MacDougal entered the butcher's in Braemar, Scotland, was the day Gabriel Ross' life changed completely. He fell in love with her immediately, as he was wont to do with any beautiful girl he saw, but he knew she was special. His sister later Angela confirmed his suspicion that Rowena was a witch when she said she recognized her from Hogwarts. Gabriel had never gone to Hogwarts, despite the fact that the rest of his family were magical. Gabriel Ross was a squib.
     Thinking he was an ordinary Muggle, Rowena didn't pay him much attention despite how eager he was to speak with her. She found him charming, however, so when he asked her to dinner she said yes, even though she knew that dating a Muggle wasn't necessarily in her best interests. Gabriel wasn't eager for Rowena to discover he was a squib, so he played along, pretending not to notice the signs that gave her away, such as a poorly concealed wand or gloves that were clearly made of dragonhide.
     It wasn't long before the two became inseparable, and the truth could no longer be concealed. Rowena was shocked to learn that he knew of the magical world, and did was not embarrassed of him when she learned he was a squib. They had a large family wedding in Braemar, where they settled into a small home near the river where they still live today.
     Ethan was born in Mid-October to two very proud parents. His father constantly worried about him being a squib like him, because even though he was proud of who he was and didn't show his shame to the world, he didn't want to be the reason why his children weren't magical. Luckily, Gabriel Ross didn't have to wait long for his son to show signs of magic. At sixteen months, Ethan was belching multicolored bubbles to amuse himself whilst lying awake in his cot. They would float into the air over his head and he would giggle whenever they popped.
     Ethan was an ordinary child. He loved to play outside, even when it was raining because he detests being indoors. He's the sort of person who doesn't mind braving cold or wet weather, although he hates it whenever his socks get wet.
     He was sorted into Gryffindor at Hogwarts, and being a rather quiet type, he found the boisterousness of his surroundings overwhelming at first. He grew to love the energy of the common room, finding it welcoming on particularly dreary days when the weather was poor. He did well in school, being the type who's always done what he was told so he always had his work turned in on time and studied for exams so he wouldn't flunk out of school. He'll never admit this to anyone, but he's always felt a need to prove himself magically since his father is a squib. It's not something he's proud of.
     After graduation, he immediately entered into the auror training program at the Ministry of Magic. It was a lot harder than he anticipated, and there were days - weeks, even - when he agreed with the people who expected him to fail. He earned his uniform in the end, and has been a fully fledged auror since 1980.
     Ethan has lost a lot of good friends in the pursuit of dark wizards, but he didn't take any as hard as the loss of Stuart McKinnon. Stuart had unofficially been his mentor when he joined the auror program, as they had both been Gryffindors together for a brief time at Hogwarts. Ethan had looked up to Stuart greatly, and even though he knows he couldn't have done anything and might have died himself, he wishes he could have been there to protect him and his family. He is only grateful that his sister's survived the attack, but he sees them now as reminders of the guilt he feels that such a strong, talented auror like him was killed when someone weaker and less talented remains in the world.
     While quiet and riddled with guilt and sorrow over all he's lost, Ethan still keeps a playful attitude and a generally optimistic outlook on life. He worries a lot about his younger sister, a sentiment she easily reciprocates, and the two often exchange letters or meet at the Three Broomsticks for a pint.
